Description

Recorded: February 9, 2023

Length: 60-Minutes

Interest in Augmented Reality (AR), Virtual Reality (VR) and Extended Reality (XR) has been increasing as a result of many new technical developments in the marketplace. However, what does the research tell us about the use of AR/VR/XR by students with disabilities?

The purpose of this webinar is to provide an accessible introduction to the research concerning AR/VR/XR and students with disabilities. It is expected that participants will be able to use the information for their own professional development and advocacy for the adoption of emerging technologies, as appropriate, for the students they work with. Emphasis will be placed on the practical application of research evidence (rather than the statistical analysis and interpretation).

The presentation is organized in three sections:
Part 1 – Foundations: What are we talking about?
Part 2 – Research evidence concerning AR/VR/XR
Part 3 – AR/VR/XR Research in Your Own School

The session will conclude with ample time for questions and answers (Q&A). Finally, participants will be encouraged to download the specially designed webinar web page in order to have a personal archive of the resources presented.

As a result of this activity, participants will be able to:

  • Distinguish between different forms of AR/VR/XR..

  •  Describe how to locate AR/VR/XR products (e.g., vendors, hardware, software).

  • Recognize differences in the quality of evidence produced by different research studies and explain why a study may have more/less quality.

  • Summarize strategies they could use for acquiring AR/VR/XR technologies and conducting research in their school.
